RoHS, lead-free legislation
Sefelec wishes to clearly communicate on the RoHS directive in order to clarify the situation concerning its range of Control Instruments.
Let’s do it simply and clearly in 4 points :
1. Definition
RoHS means Restrictions of Hazardous Substances
The RoHS Directive is indeed restricting the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). For more information, download the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC from the below link
2. Its aim
To restrict the use of 6 substances (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls, Polybrominated diphenyl ethers) within electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), thereby contributing to the protection of human health and the environment.
3. Is Sefelec concerned by the RoHS ?
No, Sefelec is not legally concerned by the RoHS as belonging to Category 9* (See Annex IA, where it says : Categories 8 & 9 are currently exempt from RoHS).
But taking care of the environment and contributing to its future is Sefelec’s concern. So Sefelec will do his best to deliver any new equipment from july 2006 (as required per the RoHS), without the said substances.
* Category 9 : Monitoring and control instruments
4. Since when has the RoHS be applied ?
From July the 1st, 2006, the RoHS will have to be respected by all the companies using the above said substances.
The RoHS is only applicable for the EU member States.
